In summary

To go to the mountains with peace of mind and avoid incurring significant rescue or equipment costs, subscribing to suitable ski insurance is highly recommended. When booking online with Sport 2000, the Multi-risk Insurance (1 €/day for children, 2 €/day for adults) covers cancellation, trip interruption, accidental breakage and theft of rented equipment (up to 600 €). The optional insurance offered with the ski pass covers on-piste rescue, medical expenses and reimbursement for non-skied days. Before subscribing, remember to check your current contracts (civil liability, Gold/Black bank card, life accident guarantee) which sometimes already include these guarantees.

Sport 2000 multi-risk ski insurance: comprehensive coverage for your holidays

When you rent your ski equipment online with Sport 2000, you have the option to tick the box “Theft, Damage and Cancellation Insurance” before confirming the reservation. This coverage allows you to be insured in the following situations:

  • you must cancel your stay for a reason beyond your control (reimbursement up to 300 euros per insured person, no deductible if the cancellation is made at least 48 hours before departure);

  • you must interrupt your stay for a reason beyond your control (reimbursement of up to 300 euros per insured person, pro rata to non-skied days);

  • your rental equipment has been accidentally damaged (up to 600 euros and with a variable deductible depending on the type of equipment);

  • you have been had your equipment stolen, whether on the slopes, in the resort or in your accommodation (up to 600 euros and with a variable deductible depending on the type of equipment).

The advantage of this ski insurance is that it covers several significant risks during a snow trip, to allow you to have a peaceful stay. It is also very easy to subscribe to in a few clicks, and at a very advantageous price: only €1 per day for children and €2 per day for adults.

Do not hesitate to consult all the multi-risk insurance conditions to find out more about covered risks, warranty exclusions, deductibles and claims declarations.

The insurance included with your ski pass

In addition to Sport 2000 multi-risk insurance, you can subscribe to theinsurance offered when purchasing or recharging your ski pass.

This primarily covers you in case ofintervention to rescue you on the slopes, by covering the rescue itself when it is not free, but also medical expenses, hospitalization costs, repatriation and the reimbursement of passes and ski lessons of the insured (sometimes also those of the family) for non-skied days following the accident.

These are generic coverage conditions, but it is important to read the guarantees and exclusions carefully at the time of subscription, to ensure that this insurance meets your needs. There are also sometimes several levels of coverage, to choose according to your budget, your practice, etc.

Generally, it will cost you between €1 and €4 per day per person : this represents only a small part of your ski pass, and could save you high expenses if you suffer an accident.

Coverage offered by your insurance company or your bank

While the insurance offered with the ski pass can save you large expenses, it is not always useful. Indeed, depending on your health mutual, home insurance or bank card contracts, you may already have all the necessary guarantees.

Civil Liability: your insurance if you cause an accident

As part of your home insurance, you are covered by Civil Liability (CL). In other words, if you cause damage to a third party, accidentally, your insurance company will cover the compensation.

However, CL does not cover your own injuries, rescue intervention for yourself, or damage that could be caused to your equipment.

Guarantees already included in your contracts

Before going on winter sports, check the clauses of your insurance and bank card contracts. Indeed, several guarantees could allow you to be compensated fully or partially, without taking out additional coverage:

  • “Life Accidents” guarantee, which can cover healthcare costs, but also cover you in case of disability, work stoppage or death;

  • insurance associated with bank cards, especially if you have a “Gold” or “Black” card, which can offer very diverse guarantees: reimbursement of rented equipment, accommodation, ski lift passes, ski lessons, etc. in case of cancellation or interruption of stay, coverage of rescue costs, etc.

Special winter sports insurance

Do you want to simplify your life and be sure to have all the necessary guarantees adapted to your mountain stay? With your insurance, you can subscribe to a specific contract often named “Snow and Mountain Insurance” or “Travel Insurance” (which is part of “Leisure Insurance”).

Guarantees can vary significantly from one company to another and depending on the formulas, but here are some examples of situations and expenses covered by this type of contract, in France only or in France and abroad :

  • medical and hospitalization costs;

  • ski lessons and ski lift passes for non-skied days, due to an accident or for example if the ski lifts are closed due to weather conditions;

  • breakage of your rented sports equipment or your personal equipment;

  • on-piste and off-piste search costs;

  • loss, theft or damage to your luggage, etc.

To summarize, before opting for specific ski insurance, check the guarantees you already have with your current contracts. If your coverage does not seem sufficient, you can complete it with:

  • theSport 2000 ski insurance associated with your ski or snowboard rental;

  • the insurance offered with the ski pass ;

  • a specific contract which covers you for several risks, only for the duration of your trip.

And don’t forget: even with the best coverage, it is essential to respect safety rules, on and off-piste, and it is advisable to wear a ski helmet!
Moreover, insurance companies may refuse to compensate you if they believe you have not taken the necessary safety measures.
