  • On drying ski boots

    Choosing the right ski boots
    is essential for your comfort and safety, but maintaining them well is just as important! It would indeed be a shame to damage the liners and shells due to a lack of maintenance or moisture buildup, especially if you had new custom liners made with Boot Fitting. Here are our expert tips for properly drying and maintaining your ski boots during the season and the rest of the year.

    Why dry your ski boot liners?

    Whether you practice alpine skiing, ski touring, or cross-country skiing, drying your ski boot liners after each use is crucial for the following reasons:

    • Humidity promotes the growth of bacteria and fungi responsible for bad odors and mold, which are not only unpleasant but can also lead to foot infections.

    • Damp liners lose thermal efficiency: you risk having cold feet and not fully enjoying your ski session.

    • If a liner is exposed to humidity for too long and too often, its durability will be compromised.

    Ski boot drying: dryers available in Sport 2000 stores

    If you opt for ski boot rental, you will have a secure area available with specific ski boot dryers, present in most Sport 2000 stores. These dryers operate with a ventilation system and gentle heat, which offer several advantages:

    • Drying is effective, both for the liners and the inside of the boots.

    • The quick-drying technology allows you to retrieve dry boots in a few hours. In practice, you will certainly leave your boots in the store in the evening, to pick them up the next morning: you will have perfectly dry boots!

    • The ventilation system and moderate temperature heating preserve the integrity of thermoformed materials of the liner, without risk of damage.

    This service is free or included in your rental package when you rent your equipment in a Sport 2000 store. In addition to low prices, payment in several installments, the wide range of available equipment, and additional services, ski rental with Sport 2000 therefore only has advantages!
    And if you can't make your choice among the various pairs available in store, consult our guides to choosing ski boots for children and choosing cross-country ski boots.

    What are the other solutions for drying the inside of ski boots?

    Don't have a dryer available? Other solutions will allow you to dry your ski boots, and each has its advantages and disadvantages:

    • Slide newspaper into the boots: it absorbs moisture, but drying will be slow.

    • Place the boots near the heater (radiator, stove, etc.): this is a faster method, but care must be taken that the boots are not too close to the heat, at the risk of deforming them.

    • Use a low-temperature hairdryer: it is effective, but requires prolonged manual handling.

    • Equip yourself with a portable electric dryer for boots: it's a practical system, but it comes at a price if you want a truly effective device.

    How to properly maintain your ski boots during your stay?

    Drying is not the only precaution to take to preserve the durability and comfort of your ski boots: we explain what other good practices to implement.

    Maintenance of ski boot liners

    In addition to daily drying of liners and insoles, it is relevant to spray an antibacterial spray specifically for footwear. Make sure to choose a product that is compatible with all types of materials, including thermoformable liner materials. A quick-drying and residue-free antibacterial spray is also preferable, so you can put on your ski boots quickly after application.

    Thanks to this, while using socks that wick away perspiration well and airing your boots every evening, you will avoid the proliferation of bacteria and germs responsible for bad odors. At the same time, you will extend the lifespan of your liners by preventing material degradation.

    Maintenance of the ski boot shell

    Even if it is not in direct contact with the foot, the boot shell also deserves special care and appropriate maintenance, just like ski maintenance .

    Here's how to proceed simply and effectively:

    • Remove liners and insoles after each outing to air them out.

    • Clean the exterior after each use by removing snow and dirt.

    • Check the condition of the buckles and Velcro strap.

    • Spray antibacterial spray inside the ski boots, as you do in each liner.

    How to store ski boots off-season?

    Is it now time to put your boots back in the closet until the next winter sports season? Proper storage will help preserve your ski boots long-term:

    • Carefully clean the shells and liners before storage.

    • Dry the boots perfectly before storing them, to prevent residual moisture from causing mold and deforming the materials.

    • Close the boot buckles to help them maintain their shape.

    • Store the boots in a dry and airy place, without leaving them near a heat source.

    With all these tips, you are guaranteed to ski in comfort with dry and healthy boots! Don't forget to also apply some of these tips to your other mountain equipment: gloves, hiking boots, snow boots, etc.

  • About Boot Fitting: the Sport 2000 service for custom ski boots

    When renting or buying ski equipment, knowing how to choose your skis well is one of the most common questions. But this should not make us forget the importance of also choosing your ski boots well, whether for comfort, performance, safety, or pleasure on the slopes.
    And if you want boots that will fit you perfectly, Boot Fitting is the ideal solution: we explain what it is and everything you need to know about this service offered by Sport 2000.

    What is Boot Fitting?

    In French, « Boot Fitting » could be translated as « ski boot adjustment ». To put it more clearly, it actually involves creating custom ski boots. Boot Fitting is indeed a technique that allows to adjust ski boots to the precise morphology of the feet, which is different for each skier.

    By opting for a Boot Fitting service, you will benefit from customization of shells and liners for optimized comfort and performance. This service is often requested when buying new boots, but Boot Fitting equipment can also be used to find the best rental boot pair for you.

    This service is available in stores specializing in ski and mountain sports, and is therefore offered in many Sport 2000 rental shops.

    Why get a Boot Fitting at a Sport 2000 store?

    Some think that Bootfitting is reserved for expert skiers or those with a morphological problem with their foot. In reality, it is a service open to everyone and has many advantages. Indeed, having ski boots adapted to one's morphology generally helps to reduce frequent pain (heel, ankle, toe, etc.) due to ill-fitting or incorrectly adjusted boots. It is also a way to improve energy transmission from the foot to the skis, thus increasing gliding quality and performance.

    Adjusted boots also ensure better hold and foot stability in the boot, thus improving comfort and safety.
    Finally, Boot Fitting helps to increase the lifespan of the boots by making them more adapted to the skier's morphology.

    Create a 100% custom liner

    If we look more precisely at the customization of the liner in relation to the morphology, we observe the following advantages:

    • better air circulation, reducing perspiration and humidity in the liner;

    • blister prevention and pressure points;

    • adaptation to the foot shape which reduces unwanted movements inside the boot;

    • use of thermoregulating materials, which help maintain a comfortable temperature in the boots.

    Deforming the shell to reduce discomfort

    By conducting a morphology study using Boot Fitting, one can also act on the shell of the ski boot, which can also be a source of discomfort. The possibilities and benefits are varied:

    • reduction of pain related to wide feet, bunions, or other foot deformities;

    • optimal foot support while reducing the uncomfortable feeling of tightness;

    • possibility to adapt shells for asymmetrical feet.

    When to get a Boot Fitting?

    Everyone has the opportunity to get a Bootfitting whenever they wish, but some situations are more favorable than others. For example, you can request an analysis of your foot's morphology when renting ski boots, so that the in-store team can have you try on the pair that suits you best. Ultimately, you save time when choosing your ski boots, with the guarantee of having a comfortable model.

    If you have your own pair of ski boots, it may be wise to request a Boot Fitting in-store if pain or discomfort is felt, if your boots have deformed with wear or if you notice morphological changes in your feet.

    How much does a Boot Fitting cost?

    The price of a Boot Fitting is not fixed, and several factors can influence the final cost:

    • the store and its pricing policy;

    • the interventions performed on the boot: sole adjustment, custom liner, shell deformation, etc.;

    • Premium options, such as injected liners or custom insoles;

    • Boot Fitting as an additional service or included in the purchase of new boots.

    Depending on these criteria, the price generally ranges from approximately €50 to €300 per pair of ski boots.

    Get a Bootfitting at a Sport 2000 store to prepare well for the season
