How to choose your mountain bike?

Many of you choose the mountains in summer to enjoy the landscapes and... the slopes to ride on your bike! Whether you are a beginner or an expert, here is a list of the main categories of mountain bikes. It's up to you to choose the bike model best suited to your practice. Indeed, if your goal is to mostly mountain bike on relatively flat trails, you won't take the same bike as if you want to do downhill.

Enduro

Do you like racing? Head to a mountain bike and electric mountain bike rental shop to find an enduro bike ! Enduro refers to timed races on natural courses, inspired by motorcycle rallies and mainly featuring descents. Enduro bikes are therefore equipped with sensitive suspensions and travel generally between 160 and 180 mm, to properly absorb shocks and vibrations.

Cross-Country

With travel between 100 and 120 mm, these bikes make pedaling easier. Lighter than other mountain bikes, they are therefore to be preferred for cyclists who do a lot of uphill cycling. Unlike enduro bikes, cross-country bikes do not have proper suspensions and are not suitable for descents.

Trail

You will easily find this category of bikes in a mountain bike and electric mountain bike rental shop, for example in Orres. Relatively light, with travel between 120 and 140 mm, trail bikes are designed to be ridden on less mountainous terrain, even if their downhill performance is quite respectable.

Downhill

As their name suggests, these mountain bikes are suitable for downhill riding (with suspensions over 200 mm) and designed to absorb multiple high-speed impacts. They are suitable not only for downhill trails, but also for enjoying yourself on Bike Park courses.

All-Mountain

If you are looking for a mountain bike that is a synthesis of all the previously mentioned categories, then opt for an all-mountain model. Their relative lightness and suspensions of approximately 150 mm are suitable for mixed use, both uphill and downhill.

Renting a mountain bike: muscular bike or electric assistance bike?

Hesitating between renting a mountain bike or an electric mountain bike? An electric mountain bike (or e-MTB = electric mountain bike, or also e-bike) is very practical because it is equipped with an integrated motor. This motor facilitates pedaling, as well as power. The user can adjust their bike using a console fixed in front of them (for example, the level of assistance). This allows you toalternate intense effort and rest phases thanks to the electric assistance system, and explains the popularity of electric mountain biking in the mountains, especially when it comes to climbing steep terrain!

An electric mountain bike is heavier than a classic mountain bike. Hence the importance of choosing a good model from a mountain bike and e-MTB rental shop, with a robust frame and equipped witha powerful motor and battery (otherwise you'll have to pedal a lot and get tired).

Electric bikes do not all have the motor located in the same place. Their autonomy also varies depending on the model. The maximum transmitted force (called "motor torque") reaches 250 watts and 70 newton-meters.
The electric bike battery has a range indicated in Watt-hours (Wh) or Ampere-hours (Ah) and in Volts (maximum 36 Volts).
