Choose the right equipment

Shoulder, knee, back and head injuries can often occur as a result of a ski fall. So it's crucial to be well equipped when skiing.

Having correctly adjusted ski bindings increases a skier’s safety when skiing down the mountain. At Sport 2000, when hiring your skis or snowboard online, make sure you get your bindings adjusted in the shop. Our staff will help you get an ideal fit.

Don't forget to hire a helmet, which is designed to withstand multiple impacts to the head. The French Skiing Federation strongly recommends all children and adults wear a helmet on the slopes.

Complete your equipment with a safety pack, which is vital in the event of an avalanche. The pack includes an ARVA avalanche transceiver, a shovel and probes.

Ski safety rules

Improve slope safety by obeying the following rules:

RESPECT FOR OTHERS

Skiers using the slopes must behave in such a way that they do not put other people in danger or cause them any harm, either through their behaviour or with their equipment.

SPEED AND BEHAVIOUR

Skiers using the slopes must adapt their speed and behaviour to suit their personal ability as well as the general terrain and weather conditions, the state of the snow and the other skiers on the slope.

CHOICE OF ROUTE

A skier coming from behind must choose his route in such a way that he does not endanger any skiers or snowboarders lower down the slope.

OVERTAKING

Overtaking can be done from above or below and to the right or left, as long as the person doing the overtaking allows sufficient space for voluntary (or involuntary) movements of the person he is passing.

ENTERING A MARKED RUN AND SETTING OFF

A skier entering a marked run, setting off again after stopping, or moving upwards on the slopes must look up and down the slope before doing so, to ensure that he can continue without endangering himself or others.

STOPPING ON THE SLOPES

Unless absolutely necessary, a skier must avoid stopping on the slope in narrow places or where visibility is restricted. After a fall in such a place, a skier must move clear of the slope as soon as possible.

GOING UP AND DOWN ON FOOT

Skiers who are obliged to go up or down a slope on foot must use the edge of the slope, taking care that neither they nor their equipment is a danger to others.

RESPECT FOR INFORMATION, MARKINGS AND SIGNS

Skiers must take notice of any information about weather and snow/slope conditions, and must respect all markings and signs on the mountain.

ASSISTANCE

Anyone who is witness to or involved in an accident is duty bound to assist, in particular by raising the alarm. If needs be, and at the request of the ski patrol, they must be available to help out.

IDENTIFICATION

Every skier and witness, whether a responsible party or not, must exchange names and addresses following an accident.
